Collection Summary: The Art Foundry and Art Foundry Editions records include correspondence, writings, project files and photographs that document founder Dwight Hackett's collaboration with prominent artists of the late twentieth century to realize their work in sculpture.
Correspondence is with suppliers, dealers, collectors, and artists with whom the Foundry worked. Writings include notebooks containing handwritten notes and drawings from discussions with collaborating artists. Project files relate to various artists and their works and contain correspondence, photographs, clippings, supply invoices, logs, and marketing and sales records. Artists represented include Tom Otterness, Larry Bell, Kiki Smith, Susan Rothenberg, Bruce Nauman, Leslie Dill, Gabriel Orozco, Lynda Benglis, Luis Jimenez, Juan Muñoz, Valeska Soares, and Richard Tuttle, among others. Photographs, many contained within binders, are extensive and include images of Hackett, artists and works of art.
Biographical/Historical Note: Art Foundry (est.1980-closed 2000) and Art Foundry Editions (est. 1992-closed 2000) were organizations founded and operated by Dwight Hackett in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
